Know me more?

And just like that I thought I’d make this entry to this blog… Well, what if? Just if? Folks wanted to know more about me? Shouldn’t I indulge them? :)
  • I started a Facebook album on my timeline as some sort of narcissism when I was going through a really bad phase in life and I needed a morale boost
  • I’ve been following food blogs since I had access to the internet. That’s quite a long time when you think about it. I never thought about starting mine actually, cos I never thought anyone would be interested in reading anything I write.
  •  I use Amul butter. All the time. Can I say I’m being ecological, avoiding imports and all? *snigger*  I’m just being thrifty. And convenience matters over any other thing (Though lately I've been finding it too salty. Has anyone else experienced that?)
  • I’ve a fascination for Malabar pepper. I love the way it smells, tastes and the slight bite it has. When I say Malabar, I mean our backyard at home. Every time I go home, I come back with spices. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever purchased spices in my life.
  •  I hate Maggi. I think watching my roomies have Maggi every single day in ISB kind of put me off it. Yes, Upali & Abhinav, I’m talking about you guys. They're wonderful travelers though. Check out their blog. www.hornpleaseok.net
  • I love eggs in any form except perhaps raw. But then again, I like eggnog. Does that count?
  • I like rice noodles. A lot! It makes me think there is some common line of thought between idiyappams and noodles.
  • ‘Erachi Pathiri’, ‘Arikadukka’, ‘ Porotta’, ‘Kozhikodan Biryani’ are terms which can make my heart sing.
  • My ammachi (grandma) used to make little doggie bags of ‘Diamond cuts’ for us when we were kids, every time we got on a train journey. If you’re leaving from my home, I feel really bad if I send you off without a bag of snacks to munch on during the journey.
  • My mum makes the meanest beef pickle ever. I get mine customized to just the right amount of caramelized sweetness and spice. That was till my bro warned us all, that Malayalees have the highest rate of stomach cancer cos we consume really high quantities of pickles & preserved non vegetarian food.
  • My favourite breakfast is Idiyappam & Motta Roast, followed by Palappam & Beef Curry (the way only my Mum makes)
  • Fish is a way of life. It is mine.
  • My mum packed sandwiches for lunch every single school day, so now I love bread. I can have bread for any meal. But strangely I’m not too fond of baguettes or anything with too thick a crust, cos maybe as a kid, I grew up eating really soft bread.
  • I’m willing to try out almost any food atleast once to figure out flavours and textures. I think I get that from my Dad. He was definitely an adventurous eater. These days though, he prefers desserts, chocolates and other sweet stuff.
  • I’m not a super taster, or atleast I don’t think I have that indepth food knowledge to be one. I know one, and her food knowledge astounds and humbles me. I would want to be one, but somethings are inherent and I don’t think I have it. I console myself and strive to be a better cook and baker.
  • My grandmom used to make cakes. My mum does. My aunts do. My sister does. I do now.
  • My sister does better cake decoration than I do. She has waaaaay more patience.
  • My mum has a giant Kenwood mixer which I had my eye on, till my sister convinced me to get my own slightly smaller one. I've watched my mum whip up batches and batches of X'mas cakes using that mixer. I haven’t opened mine yet. I’m guessing X’mas would be the season. Let’s bring on the Panetonnes & Brioches.
  • I’m very lucky to have lovely friends. They get me Mast Brother’s chocolate, Speculoos spread, Japanese Soy Sauce, Mirin, Dashi, Miso, cherry tea, silicon cupcake liners, platters and what not. Thank you for getting me things from far flung lands I never have access to.
  • My family is heartbreakingly sweet. Now that they know where my interests lie, any trip anywhere, has platters, bowls, chocolates, special ingredients and quirky stuff for me.
  • Pssssttt... Secret. I don't have that big a sweet tooth. I don't constantly crave desserts. I just need that one perfect bite. When I started the blog, I searched around for the name 'Perfect Bite', but it wasn't available.
  • I like taking photos. But mostly of food that I make. I’m not too scientific about it. I plate, I point, I shoot. Not much thought beyond that.
  • I don’t know where I’m going with this blog. I don’t promote it other than on my Facebook page which again is not promoted and is accessed mostly by friends and family. What do I do? Where do I go next?
  • I never thought I’d find this blog useful, but some days I go back to some of my earlier recipes and make them again. And then I find ways to fiddle around with them again. Gah! too much to blog.
Anything more you’d like to know?

I thought not.

Also, in case anyone was wondering, I don't proof read.
